Creating Accessible Online Content In-Person
During this essentials course, you will learn easy and practical steps to ensure your online content - documents, attachments, files, videos, animations, and web copy - is accessible to anyone who needs it.
There has always been a need to make online content accessible, but key legislation places an expectation on you to routinely ensure that your online materials consistently meet high and measurable standards of accessibility.
Aims:
Come along to this session to:
-
follow current accessibility legislation and recognise how it applies to your role
-
check the accessibility scores of online content using the Ally Bb accessibility plugin and then follow advice to improve content
-
practice using the Accessibility checker within Microsoft Word and follow identified steps to meet minimum accessibility standards
-
apply Styles within Microsoft Word to create an accessible document structure that enables readers to navigate and access content using their preferred tools (e.g., screen readers, keyboard only)
-
provide alternatives where the original format may exclude some users (e.g., transcripts, image descriptions / Alt text)
-
ensure content is logical and presented clearly (e.g., colour contrast, font choices) by referring to the correct documents
-
identify where to go to learn more so that you can ensure any further content you may create is accessible (e.g., PDFs, PowerPoint, web pages, videos etc).
